It's hard to count the ways that these African American HUD tenantscan ruin a building where they live. If they would only apply themselvesa little more to graduating from high school, they'd be better off.
Only 17% of the urban African Americans in St. Louis graduate fromhigh school. Most of those few graduates are girls. Most of them cannotread.
But it's cool to get pregnant and get your own apartment and welfarechecks.
It's very cool to stand on the corners and sell drugs.
It's cool to shoot people.
And it's super cool--in fact, it's awesome--to be a part ofa group that doesn't have to ever work, doesn't get married, plays withguns, knocks up chicks, flunks out, walks the streets, brags, and dealsdrugs with the Crips and Bloods. Neat.
In addition, Man, we ruined the whole City of St. Louis. Boy, thosewhite dudes are really stupid, aren't they? Kick out walls, tear off thedoors, clean out the copper pipes, buy a little crack cocaine.... Very cool,dudes.....
