Jewish Settlers Roll Barbed Wire Around Their Lands
...Says, "Hello, my brothers."KIRYAT ARBA, West Bank (AP) _ Israeli troops restrained a group of angryPalestinians on Thursday as Jewish settlers rolled barbed wire around aplot of land they claimed the Palestinians had been using illegally.
Palestinian landowner Salem Jaber, 65, angrily watched the settlers froma distance. ``This land is ours,'' said Jaber, accompanied by 30 relatives.``There won't be peace between us. There will be butchery. It is us or them.''
The Palestinians said they had a deed to prove they owned the land.
Zvi Katzover, mayor of Kiryat Arba, said the land was part of the settlement'smunicipal area. He claimed that Palestinians had been using the land illegally,and that the settlers were taking it back.
The plot of land is located several hundred yards from Kiryat Arba, whichis near the West Bank town of Hebron.
Israeli and Palestinian negotiators held talks on Israeli troop redeploymentin Hebron on Thursday and early Friday in the Egyptian resort of Taba andthe Israeli resort of Eilat.
Most settlers are vehemently opposed to any Israeli withdrawal, saying itwill put them at risk.
