
(Monday, July 15, 1996, AP, OCHAGAVIA, Spain.) The armed Basque separatistgroup ETA fired two grenades at a Civil Guard barracks in the northern townof Ochagavia on Sunday, causing damage but no injuries.
ETA hid an improvised grenade launcher with a 12-hour timer in a buildingunder construction 250 yards in front of the barracks where 18 Civil Guardslive with their families, a police spokeswoman said. Two of four grenadesmisfired, one fell short, and another broke through a third-floor window.The family who lives there was on vacation.
The community is about 40 miles northeast of Pamplona. ETA, a Basque-languageacronym for Basque Homeland and Liberty, has carried out similar attacksin its 28-year violent campaign for independence for Spain's northern Basqueprovinces.
